The other day my 18 month old got into my duffle bag and took out one my workout bands. She properly anchored under two feet started doing some bicep curls and singing her a,b,c’s…seriously! It was adorable, but what really topped it off was my 3 year old son saw her and decided to join the fun! He grabbed a set of bands for himself, my oldest daughter, and my hubbie and started leading them in their workout. He did a great job and it had me laughing hysterically!

Whew! It’s been a busy week! Never a dull moment in the life of a Stroller Strides mom!

This morning Ami and I attended the Baby Expo at Reliant. We got to lead the opening stroller parade and judge the stroller decorating contest. The winner of the contest decorated her stroller with a jungle theme and dressed up her adorable baby in an elephant costume. Very cute!

This is the guy that is the “voice” of Reliant. When you go to the rodeo or a big event and your here the announcements overhead…this is the guy talking. Yup I’m a dork and thought it was so cool to meet him! Next on my list, the voice of Jack (in the Box)!

Like I said, I’m a dork and big kid at heart!

A “Healthy Reflection”

My inbox is flooded daily, if not hourly, with tons of newsletters, updates, store events, etc from the many places that I frequent online; sites that deal with cooking, photography, graphic design, fitness, parenting, etc. Like I said lots of emails! Most of the time I give a quick skim through the reads and go on about my day. This is a snipet from Babyfit.com’s daily Healthy Reflections that actually made me stop and “reflect” on what it meant…

“What is accomplishment? Is it measured by the number of zeroes in your salary? By status or your level of fame? Or could success possibly come from the number of lives you touch? In today’s world, where people are famous just for being famous, it’s easy to get caught up in the quest for being noticed and appreciated. People and ideas can be trampled along the way if nobody looks out for them. If leaving a legacy is important to you, it should not come at the expense of your values. If you let it, you’ll end up leaving a legacy you didn’t want, and that kind of defeats the purpose doesn’t it? The greatest and most noble acts are the ones that are done when we think no one is looking. When you stop expecting thanks or anything in return, your contribution is more welcome than ever. It is a goal in my life to not only be a great role model for my kids, but to do something every day that positively impacts the world. In my mind, no act of kindness is too small!

A Busy Sunday Morning

Today has been a long day, but a fun one! Our day started at 4 am getting ready for our 4 minutes of fame on KPRC Channel 2. I was extremely nervous, but somehow managed to answer the questions with some manner of coherent thought! Ami was nervous, but stayed very calm and collected. She’s a pro! **Thank you Grant and Jason for watching us on TV at 6 am and for watching the kiddos while we were out!

We each headed home to get ready for the March for Babies walk. We lucked out with weather at walk! It was supposed to rain all morning, but never had one drop. There were a few moments of blinding sunlight directly over head, but for the most part, it wasn’t too bad. We finished the walk in almost exactly an hour and a half. The time went by so fast though. It really didn’t feel like we walked for that long or that far. There were so many people there and many with their children. A lot of the children there were NICU graduates and usually had a t-shirt designating them so with their birth stats. It was amazing to see so many children born at 2lbs and under thriving today. There were also several teams that walked in memory of little one’s lost. One family lost their child as recently as April 9th. I managed to make it through the walk and through lunch relatively tear free, but when I got to my car and saw another family with a picture of their beloved baby that is no longer with us making their way back to theirs I became instantly overwhelmed; both with joy and relief that we were so lucky to have a healthy NICU grad and with sorrow for those walking in memory of. I am so grateful that there is an organization dedicated to saving these little miracles and pray that in time they will succeed in their mission.

On Blogging

Maybe it’s because I’m a total geek, but I’m really like blogs! I was thinking of stuff I wanted to add to this blog and ways to communicate to the outside world our existence, and in my research I’ve come across some really cool sites and some cool stuff!

If you are new to blogging or haven’t ever considered starting one here is some basic info!

If you are a parent, a blog is a great tool for sharing pictures, videos, and all those precious moments that would otherwise be unknown to those who were not there to experience them first hand. Blogs are a great way to share information and a great resource to find information!

These are a few sites that offer blog hosting:

- Blogger.com – a product of Google, blogs are easily created and managed, and it’s Free! Page elements and widgets are easily added with little to no effort. If you are a beginner this is a good place to start!

- WordPress.com – also free, this site gives more in design options and is good for both beginner bloggers as well as advanced. Page elements and widgets can be a little trickier to work with (esp when you are OCD and stubborn like me), but there are lots of options available!

- Typepad.com – offers different packages with varying bandwidth, customization options, etc. There are tons of options for customization and design and while experience with blog design is not required, it helps!

- Squarespace.com – also offers different blog packages, the cheapest at $7/month. Squarespace is relatively easy to use and is one of the few sites that has pretty “girlie” templates. Customization options are available but you would need to have at least basic knowledge of CSS to really make a difference in appearance.

These are just a few that are out there and are ones that I have personally tried.

Here are a few sites to find cool widgets for mommies that can easily be put into your blog:

- Lilypie.com – Cute Pregnancy counters, Child age counters, Adoption count down counters, etc.

- Babystrology.com – 3D Baby ticker. It’s really weird, but really cool!

- Flickr.com – animated picture boxes from your Flickr account.

Note: You have to have a yahoo id to use this!

To have a successful blog, the key is to consistantly update your content…OK so I haven’t updated the recipe and quote yet, and we still have some blank spots…do as I say, not as I do! You get the idea though! If you have the same thing posted with nothing new for a long period of time, you will lose your audience. Notice I said consistently update and not constantly update. You don’t need to spend a lot of time updating your blog. Let’s face it, we are limited in time as it is and every spare second is a second savored!

I could dedicate a whole blog just to blogging, but since that is not our main focus I’ll leave you with just the basics!

Tomorrow is the morning spot on KPRC and then off to March for Babies! If you are an early riser check us out at the 6 am spot on channel 2! If you are like most people, including my hubbie, just set the DVR and sleep in a little longer!
