What is a good way to keep kids entertained while in the stroller for extended periods of time…like say at a Stroller Strides class?!

Some kids handle being in the stroller very well and some (like mine) are OK with it for about 10 minutes and then they are ready to get out! Keeping your kids entertained in the stroller can be quite a challenge. Here are some tips to keeping your kiddos happy when they have to stay in the stroller for extended periods of time:

- Food – Bring some of their favorite snacks and distribute them over time.

- Books – Keep a few books with you that they can look when they start to get fussy. Be sure to switch out the books often!

- Toys – Designate a few toys as “stroller only” toys and only let them play with them when they are in the stroller. This “special edition toy” will help to keep them happy during your outing!

- Music – Hook up your CD player or iPod to some small travel speakers and let your kids listen to their favorite songs. Feel free to sing along too, the kids love it! Will you look silly? Absolutely, but better to look silly singing The Wheels on the Bus at top of your lungs and have happy babies, than struggle with a temper tantrum!

- Movies – This one I would recommend when you are out for a really long time only. TV can be pretty addicting for kids and this might make them expect to have a mini DVD player available for them all of the time. This tool is pretty effective overall, but use it sparingly!

- Bubbles - Kids LOVE bubbles, especially the younger ones! The nice thing about bubbles is that they are cheap and they last a long time. The one obstacle you might face with this one is that they might want to take over the bubble bottle and when children play with bubble bottles, they get them everywhere (or is this just my kids)!
